As Rise In Girl\u2019s luxury tour bus made its way through the cornfields of central Ohio, Trevor Green felt at peace. He and his bandmates had come a long way since their days riding in cramped, dirty tour buses and sleeping on friends\u2019 couches as they grinded their way through the Ohio underground scene. Now they were at the top of the industry, en route to a venue that was smaller than usual, but one that meant a lot to Trevor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWoo-hoo, we out here in the middle of nowhere, baby!\u201d exclaimed Jake Bartoni, the band\u2019s shaggy-haired, gregarious guitar player. \u201cNice of the college president to let us do this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh yeah, it\u2019s good to be able to see my girl for sure,\u201d Trevor replied. \u201cNow if only she would stop keeping me such a secret.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah, Trev, what\u2019s the deal with that, man?\u201d asked Dustin Rose, the heavily tattooed bass player. \u201cHer dad\u2019s a big rock star, you\u2019d think she\u2019d want to be the big shot on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNah, it ain\u2019t like that, bro,\u201d Trevor explained, lighting up a joint. \u201cShe\u2019s all shy and introverted. She loves the music and loves the scene, but she doesn\u2019t want her friends all up in her business. Too much attention and shit, you know?\u201d He blew out a healthy-sized cloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOh shit, is that why it\u2019s like a surprise thing?\u201d asked eccentric drummer Paulie Watson. \u201cI heard they\u2019re not even telling the kids until the last minute.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah, that\u2019s it,\u201d Trevor said. \u201cWe had to arrange it that way with Haggerty. The kids are so into the scene, it\u2019d be a riot around here if they knew we were coming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDamn, that\u2019s some crazy ass shit, bro,\u201d Jake guffawed as the bus drove past the drab gray college campus. Looking at the school\u2019s sign, he observed, \u201cRichard J. Haggerty University. Shit sounds like a goddamn law firm, man. Callie like it here?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou know her, man, she\u2019s lowkey,\u201d Trevor replied. \u201cJust wants a liberal arts degree to figure out what the fuck she\u2019s doing with her life. She doesn\u2019t need any of that fancy ass big university shit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAdmirable,\u201d Dustin said with respect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was only the second week of college, but already Dexter had made some friends on the baseball team. His roommate, Bobby Albany, was a laid-back and outgoing guy, not to mention a promising two-way player. Lewis Park, Dexter\u2019s fellow infielder and English major, was also part of the group. The three shared the same bizarre, dark sense of humor. They had also gotten to know Dazzy and his girlfriend Kat, who were both big parts of the campus music scene. Things were looking up, and they were about to get a lot more interesting. On this evening, Dexter and his buddies were walking to Fairbanks Hall for dinner after practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo what do you think about the moon landing, bro? They definitely faked the pictures,\u201d Lewis speculated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBruh, you fuckin’ wild,\u201d Bobby scoffed. \u201cClearly the Kennedy assassination was an inside job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNah, they were too busy doing 9\/11, they didn\u2019t have time for that shit,\u201d Dexter chimed in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMan, y\u2019all homies is trippin, I don\u2019t know what the fuck y\u2019all talkin\u2019 about,\u201d Dazzy mused. \u201cThis is some white people shit if I ever heard it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHey, I\u2019m Asian, bro,\u201d Lewis reminded him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAw, my bad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHey, y\u2019all need to pay attention,\u201d Kat snapped at them. \u201cCheck out the sign right here.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
