It was late March, and baseball season was set to begin in a week. Dexter lay on his dorm room bed, aimlessly throwing a baseball up in the air and catching it. He had barely left him room in the last five months outside of classes and baseball, and his emotions were in a tailspin. He hadn\u2019t seen Callie since the show, and he figured she probably wasn\u2019t into him. After all, that would line up with his past experiences. He had a hard time listening to Rise In Girl\u2019s music, cringing at his ignorance whenever he heard the beautiful vocals of Trevor Green. One of his heroes hated him, and he just had to learn to accept it. But he still hadn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dexter heard the door click, and Bobby walked in. \u201cAw man, you\u2019re sitting around doing that shit again?\u201d he asked incredulously. \u201cYou gotta snap out of this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDude, it\u2019s not worth it,\u201d Dexter replied. \u201cTrevor thinks I\u2019m an idiot, and no girl on this campus will ever think I\u2019m cool enough. Why bother?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBro, are you seriously still on this? You got so much going for you,\u201d Bobby asserted. \u201cYou\u2019re killing it in your classes, you play a great third base, and you are a cool fucking dude, man! At least when you\u2019re right. But not when you\u2019re sulking like a wannabe emo kid. The season starts in a week, man. Be hyped!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAh, fuck, dude, you\u2019re probably right,\u201d Dexter groaned as he got up from his bed. \u201cI just feel like that was a big part of my identity that was taken away from me. Baseball and emo music. I don\u2019t feel like I\u2019m complete.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWell, throw that shit aside and get complete, cause we need you, man,\u201d Bobby demanded. \u201cBro, this Jimmy Fender clown is pissing me off.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYeah, what\u2019s going on with that, man?\u201d Dexter asked. \u201cSeems like y\u2019all are fighting it out pretty hard over there at first.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a dickhead, man,\u201d Bobby explained. \u201cThinks he\u2019s all high and mighty over there. And of course Coach Ronnie has to kiss his ass because he\u2019s a trust-fund kid and his dad knows President Haggerty. But I know I\u2019m better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRight, like he hits bombs and stuff, but you do, too,\u201d Dexter agreed. \u201cAnd you\u2019re obviously way better for the team’s chemistry.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI gotta do something, man,\u201d Bobby said. \u201cI gotta show Ronnie that I\u2019m the man so I can kick that dumbass bully to the bench. He thinks he can pitch, too, but he can\u2019t hit the broad side of a freakin\u2019 barn.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGod, I wish we could get him out of here,\u201d Dexter said. \u201cThe way he shoves people around in the locker room is just not fucking good. Someone\u2019s going to get hurt.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
